Diabetic Ketoacidosis is a dangerous complication of diabetes in which the body breaks down fat for energy instead of glucose due to insufficient ammount of insulin. An Addisonian crisis is a severe and acute lack of cortisol and aldosterone caused by adrenal gland failure, also known as Addison’s disease. These are life-threatening endocrine emergencies that can affect animals and require intensive care and hospitalisation.
In my photos, you can see a positive ACTH stimulation test confirming an Addisonian crisis in one of my patients and a cat with constant glucose monitoring using a FreeStyle Libre reader. The cat was hospitalised due to DKA.
I had a lovely time spending the summer at AniCura Kalmar again.
I also visited some beautiful places in the local area!
